Our Approach

Our Theory of Change guides our work to advance socially responsible renewable energy transitions.

VISION

Renewable energy transitions in the Global South are socially grounded, politically durable and regionally economically interconnected, with participation, safeguards and equitable benefit-sharing embedded across large-scale renewable systems and diffused through cross-regional learning and collaboration.

INDIRECT OUTCOMES system level change

Renewable energy projects experience fewer delays linked to social conflict.
Policyraisers integrate participation, safeguards and ownership frameworks into regulatory systems.
Cross-regional ecosystems - Global South and beyond - sustain diffusion of improved practice and action takes place faster.
Industry embed excellent social practices into project design and governance.
Community ownership is a credible and scalable model for large-scale renewables.

DIRECT OUTCOMES Through the JustRE Alliance's work

Civil society organizations increase their technical, governance, and advocacy capacity in renewable energy social practice.
Cross-regional networks of practitioners actively exchange knowledge, align standards, and replicate viable models across regions.
Industry strengthens their capacity to integrate social practice into large-scale renewable projects.
Justice-oriented CSOs increase their coordination and collective influence.
Policymakers and regulators adopt improved frameworks informed by Alliance evidence and dialogue.
The gap between renewable ambition and socially grounded implementation is narrowed in priority regions.
Community ownership models and other benefit-sharing mechanisms are clarified, documented and advanced in priority regions.

MISSION How the justre alliance contributes

The JustRE Alliance is a platform and ecosystem accelerator that connects organisations and practitioners advancing socially grounded energy transitions to:

Generate actionable evidence
Strengthen civil society, industry, policymaker, and finance capacity
Enable cross-regional exchange, including South-South exchange and connection with the North
Advance and facilitate diffusion of viable community ownership and benefit-sharing models
Align knowledge, practice, and influence across actors, translating localised experience into shared system intelligence

The platform is a connective architecture across all workstreams, advancing just energy transitions.

Workstreams

s

Knowledge and evidence generation

Generate and consolidate evidence, frameworks, and practical insights on the social dimensions of renewable energy deployment.

Community and exchange

Connect actors across regions and roles to enable shared learning, collaboration, and replication of effective practices.

Application and capacity

Translate knowledge into practice by strengthening the ability of practitioners, companies, and institutions to apply socially effective approaches.

A living framework:
our strategy work is underway

Our Theory of Change is a living framework, shaped through a strategy process that asks open questions, draws on evidence and the experience of our member organisations, and is continually tested with external advisors and partners.

We welcome conversations with practitioners, researchers, policymakers, industry and funders who want to help shape our work and strategy.
