A FutuRE in Progress
What if the renewable energy transition transformed not only how we produce energy, but how we build it — and with whom? Across the Global South, communities are already demonstrating what is possible when they have meaningful opportunities to participate in renewable energy development, shape decisions, and share in ownership and benefits.
A FutuRE in Progress will bring these experiences together with an imagined vision of 2050, exploring what the world could look like if community participation, ownership and benefit-sharing became fundamental to renewable energy development everywhere. It is a vision of a renewable energy future built with communities, not simply around them — and a future that the JustRE Alliance is working to make possible.

We aim to support the growing ecosystem of actors working to ensure renewable energy is scaled according to urgent climate ambitions while also preventing and addressing social and environmental tensions.
The JustRE Alliance takes a systemic approach and recognises the multiple dimensions to justice and equity across renewable energy projects’ lifecycle. We champion socially responsible renewable energy implementation that ensures meaningful participation and benefits for communities across the Global South.

JustRE plays a critical role as a collaborative platform where organisations and multiple stakeholders, most importantly communities and grassroots movements, can share lessons and experiences on deploying large-scale renewable energy projects.
Our partner organizations and initiatives’ work is at the forefront of the social dimension of renewable energy deployment across Latin America, Africa, and South and Southeast Asia.
Objectives
JustRE Alliance’s objective is twofold and is underpinned by the foundational objective of removing barriers to the rapid scaling of renewable energy
Mission
JustRE is a capacity-building and knowledge exchange platform for multiple stakeholders (including communities, civil society organisations, governments and the private sector) working towards social excellence in renewable energy deployment.
