Overview

In 2025, JustRE Alliance will design and pilot a Practitioner Leadership Program — a cornerstone initiative aimed at strengthening the capacity of local and national actors working toward a just energy transition across the Global South. This pilot program will provide a collaborative, in-person learning space for practitioners from different regions to share experiences, build leadership capacities, and foster cross-sectoral and international partnerships. With a strong emphasis on equity and inclusion, the program will ensure the content and delivery are rooted in real-world practice and lived experience.

Objective

The Practitioner Leadership Program aims to:

Transfer knowledge, lessons, and practices across regions through forums, trainings, and convenings.

Strengthen the capacity of practitioners to engage in and influence just energy transitions.

Create a replicable and scalable model for future leadership development across the Alliance and beyond.

The Four Phases of the Pilot

1. Scoping

Identify relevant expertise, experience, and training materials within the JustRE Alliance and beyond. Map existing pedagogical approaches and draw inspiration from established models.

2. Design and Development

Co-create the program’s curriculum and methodology, including preparing workshop proposals, selecting trainers and participants, and logistics planning.

3. Piloting

Pilot the first design of the workshop, bringing together stakeholders from industry, government, and civil society. Participants will engage in intensive knowledge exchange, collaborative learning, and practical sessions aimed at deepening leadership and strategic thinking.

4. Synthesis and Next Steps

Evaluate the program effectiveness, capture feedback, and refine the program design. A final documented version of the program will guide future rollouts and long-term training efforts within the JustRE Alliance.

Expected Outcomes

A successful pilot of the Practitioner Leadership Program.

A complete and documented program package including curriculum, training materials, and methodology.

A clear set of recommendations for scaling the program across regions, including potential delivery partners and implementation strategies.

This program is envisioned as the heart of the Alliance’s long-term commitment to strengthening social practitioner capacity in energy transitions, ensuring leadership is inclusive, context-sensitive, and grounded in practice.

Project lead

This initiative is led by the Responsible Energy Initiative (REI), drawing on its expertise in system change education and multistakeholder training, particularly in South and Southeast Asia. The program will be co-designed and implemented in partnership with REI and INSPIRE.
