Strategy & Research Analyst

Start date: September 2026
Location Remote (Global South preferred, with virtual meetings across time zones)
Start date September 2026
Contracting Organization INSPIRE on behalf of the JustRE Alliance
Contract Type Consultant (8-month contract)
Compensation USD 1,900–2,500 per month, depending on experience and time allocation.

The JustRE Alliance is a global network dedicated to driving socially inclusive, community-focused renewable energy transitions in the Global South. By combining research, capacity-building, policy advocacy, and partnerships, the initiative works to ensure that large-scale energy projects deliver equitable, long-term benefits to local communities.

The Alliance is now entering an exciting new phase: developing a three-year strategy to identify where it can have the greatest impact in strengthening the ecosystem of organisations working at the intersection of renewable energy, communities and social performance.

We’re looking for a Strategy & Research Analyst to work closely with the Alliance Lead in developing the Alliance’s first three-year strategy.

This is not a traditional research role. Over the next eight months, you’ll help answer some fundamental questions about where the Alliance can create the greatest value, what opportunities exist across the Global South, and how the organisation can maximise its impact over the coming years.

You’ll help transform research, stakeholder insights and systems analysis into practical strategic recommendations, contributing directly to decisions that will shape the future direction of the Alliance.

If you enjoy tackling complex problems, connecting ideas across disciplines and turning evidence into action, we’d love to hear from you.

Research & Strategic Analysis

  • Consolidate and synthesise the Alliance’s and its partners existing research, publications and learning.
  • Conduct research across priority Global South countries on renewable energy deployment, implementation challenges and enabling conditions.
  • Develop country profiles and comparative analyses to support strategic decision-making.
  • Assess existing evidence, identify knowledge gaps, and recommend priorities for further analysis.
  • Translate complex evidence into clear strategic recommendations, discussion papers and presentations.

Strategy Development

  • Support the development and drafting of the Alliance’s three-year strategy.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic options, priorities and recommendations.
  • Help translate research and stakeholder insights into strategic decisions.
  • Prepare discussion papers, presentations and analytical briefs for Steering Group discussions.
  • Support the refinement of the Alliance’s positioning, implementation approach and investment proposition.

Ecosystem Mapping & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Map organisations, funders, initiatives and strategic partners across priority geographies.
  • Analyse ecosystem relationships, collaboration opportunities and implementation gaps.
  • Support stakeholder interviews, workshops and other engagement activities.
  • Synthesise stakeholder perspectives into practical strategic insights.

Strategy Process Support

  • Prepare materials for Steering Group meetings and strategy workshops.
  • Coordinate analytical inputs from consultants and external contributors.
  • Maintain organised documentation of research, stakeholder engagement and analytical outputs.
  • Proactively identify analytical needs and help move the strategy process forward.

Required

We’re looking for someone with approximately 4–6 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Strategy or strategic planning
  • Research or policy analysis
  • Systems thinking
  • Public policy
  • International development
  • Climate, sustainability or renewable energy
  • Consulting
  • Social innovation
  • Fundraising

Experience in renewable energy is not essential. We’re much more interested in your ability to conduct rigorous research, think strategically and make sense of complex systems than the specific sector you’ve worked in.

You will bring

  • Excellent analytical and synthesis skills.
  • Strong qualitative research and evidence review experience.
  • Systems thinking and the ability to identify patterns and strategic opportunities.
  • Excellent written communication skills in English.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A proactive, independent working style and comfort navigating ambiguity.

Desirable

Experience in one or more of the following:

  • Multi-stakeholder initiatives, networks or alliances.
  • Civil society organisations, think tanks or social enterprises.
  • Grant-funded programmes.
  • Community participation, benefit-sharing or renewable energy.
  • Facilitation or systems change processes.

Knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese or another Global South language is also an asset.

You’ll probably enjoy this role if you thrive in entrepreneurial environments, enjoy building things from the ground up, and like bringing structure to complex challenges.

We’re looking for someone who is naturally curious, proactive and collaborative—someone who enjoys working independently while contributing to a small, international team tackling ambitious, real-world challenges.

By the end of the contract, you’ll have become a trusted strategic partner to the Alliance Lead, helping transform research, stakeholder insights and systems analysis into an ambitious and actionable three-year strategy that will guide the Alliance’s next phase of growth.

We recognise that great candidates don’t always meet every qualification listed above. If you’re excited about this role and believe you could make a meaningful contribution to the Alliance, we’d love to hear from you! We encourage you to apply, even if your experience doesn’t perfectly match every requirement.

How to apply?

To apply, please submit:

  • Your CV, and
  • A short expression of interest (max. 2 pages) outlining your motivation, relevant experience, and an example of how you have helped strengthen or coordinate a network, alliance, or multi-stakeholder initiative.

Please send your application by August 24th 2026 to juanita@inspire-excellence.net
